TOP 5 AMERICAN HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS

Australians can’t get enough of the USA, it’s official. When it comes to our top holiday destinations, North America has come out miles ahead of most of the competition yet again. In fact, according to figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics for 2015-16, the USA is the third most visited country and the numbers of Australians heading out there in the last decade has doubled. So, why is that? Well, it’s probably at least partly because there’s simply so much to offer, all in one place. Stuck for inspiration? Here are some of our best ideas…

Las Vegas

If there’s one American city that ought to be on your bucket list it’s Vegas, Nevada! It’s an absolute party city, so make sure to bring your party hat! If cocktails by the pool get boring, you know very well what else it’s famed for. Casino, anyone?! Whether you’re heading to the Luxor, The Venetian, The Bellagio or Mandalay Bay, you’re nothing without a little practising beforehand. Since pokies (or slot machines as they’re called in the rest of the world) are Australia’s favourite casino games, we’re pretty sure you’ll first head to the slots in Vegas. In order to get familiar with the “real” beasts, try your hand at an online casino offering pokies. Since many Aussie sites offer them, you’d be better off checking out these expert tips on winning on pokies so that you find which banking options and rolling bonuses suit you best.

Southern California

Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego – possibly some of the most beautiful, fascinating locations on the face of the Earth! Whether you want to go celeb spotting in Hollywood, to the fairground on Santa Monica Pier, surfing on Huntington Beach or sunning yourself on Coronado Island, you will find that Southern California is famed worldwide for a reason.

Florida

Florida is the perfect destination because it really has something for everyone. From beaches through to cruises, theme parks and other attractions, you’ll find something to do whether you’re with the family, your partner or your friends. Of course, everyone knows about Orlando. It’s home to Disney AND Universal, making it an absolutely perfect choice for thrill seekers and kids (big and small)!

You might be less familiar with its basketball scene. What could be more American than taking in an Orlando Magic game, complete with real-life cheerleaders? Or, if you fancy checking out their rivals, Miami Heat, you’ll get an equally fast-paced experience, alongside a glorious crystal-clear water beach to relax on the next day!

Hit the stores on Fifth Avenue, check out the Chelsea food markets, take in a show on Broadway and then dance the night away! Or, head over to Brooklyn for some good coffee, a musical show, or even a bit of hipster spotting! Don’t forget to say hi to Lady Liberty, too!

This one’s a bit out of left field, but it’s an absolute gem for the seasoned traveller.
