Mountain adventure meets romantic escape at Thunderbird Park
Tucked away in the Gold Coast hinterland is a natural wonderland and home to Thunderbird Park – a popular destination for Queenslanders and holidayers from further south who want to take advantage of the area’s mild winters and stunning nature.
Driving up Tamborine Mountain feels surreal – like you’ve been catapulted back 50 years and the world is simple again. Don’t be deceived by the name, Thunderbird Park is not only family friendly and adventurously fun, but the perfect romantic escape for nature lovers and thrill seekers. The on-site, Cedar Creek Lodges are just a stone’s throw away from the action but you’ll feel miles away as you enjoy your peaceful cabin decked out with all the mod cons, a spa bath and a fireplace that overlooks the lush rainforest through wall-length windows. The calming energy of the space can be felt as soon as you walk in, and the trickles of the creek and birdsong heard as you relax by the fire.
The accommodation includes a scrumptious breakfast buffet with all the favourites, and other meals can be purchased at the on-site kiosk and restaurant. Your kitchen is fully equipped with the essentials if you’d rather bunker up and enjoy some down time in the homely little oasis, or adventure into the nearby town of Tamborine where you’ll discover an abundance of cute cafes and eateries.
Outdoor activities on offer at the park include horse riding, mini golf, laser skirmish and more. Give the Treetop Challenge a whirl and be impressed by the kids’ fearlessness as they glide effortlessly through the trees on flying foxes and balance with ease on tree top wires through the obstacle courses. There are six levels that become progressively more challenging and you can opt out at the end of any level if you’ve had enough adrenaline pumping action. The less fainthearted can continue on to the end and experience heights of up to 20 metres. More serious adrenaline junkies can try the new Canyon Flyer Zipline – Australia’s largest guided zipline tour with ziplines more than 60 metres high zigzagging through the canyon.
In an area surrounded by lush hills and rainforest, there are also plenty of bush walking options nearby with waterfalls and wildlife aplenty. Thunderbird Park allows you to create your own retreat experience and level of adventure. Indulge in the many activities on offer or send the kids along while you relax surrounded by creature comforts in your cosy cabin.
As you leave Thunderbird Park and your homely cabin, you’ll already be planning your next visit to this fun little pocket of paradise, perfect for a family getaway with the kids or an adventurous yet romantic escape.
