When value is not the same as price
A 45-minute Swedish massage at the five-star spa at The Darling Hotel costs a whopping $140.
But, so long as you don’t mind splashing a bit of cash, it’s the best buy in town. And not just because the massage is perfect.
You see, having a treatment at The Spa at The Darling gives you much, much more. Firstly, access to the fabulous scented (white tea and eucalyptus apparently, but I couldn’t smell it) fifth-floor pool and heated jacuzzi.
Then there’s a lounge with endless supplies of ginger tea and healthy snacks. And a Hamman, with a free exfoliating scrub just outside the amazing showers.
Plus they’ll even validate your parking.
Suddenly a 45-minute massage is a half-day of luxury. And becomes worth every penny.
The Spa is on the second floor of the hotel. The friendly greeter makes sure you’re familiar with the facility and is on hand to ensure your every need is looked after. It’s a level of service similar to the top-end spas in some Middle Eastern and Asian countries. And it looks a lot like them too – high-end fittings, showers that spray you from angles you didn’t know existed, beautiful tiles and marble, and all spotlessly clean and new.
The massage starts with a foot bath. The fabulous masseuse knows her trade and also knows not to chat. Bliss. Facials use La Prairie products, and they’re for sale in the reception area, too. There are 16 treatment rooms in total, including one for couples. And although the chill-out room is pretty dark, tiny clip-on reading lamps are supplied.
Post-treatment clients were in raptures over the bare-back and hot-stone massages.
It’s more than a massage, it’s an experience.
