An oasis of wellness.
Nestled on an acre in the centre of Dunsborough, 246 km south of Perth, is Samudra – an oasis of wellness and health where visitors are spoilt for choice.
There are yoga and surfing retreats throughout the year, which incorporate healthy food and cooking classes.
Samudra is founded upon a holistic understanding of health and its relationship to the mind, body and spirit. Samudra offers yoga classes, healthy vegetarian food, a wellness centre and a retail store, which sells ethical yoga and leisure wear. In addition (as if that wasn’t enough), there are yoga and surfing retreats throughout the year, which incorporate healthy food and cooking classes.
The holistic approach to health is encouraged among Samudra staff, who are encouraged to participate in a daily yoga class. The ‘staff room’ is located outside in the productive garden, which grows over 50% of the cafe’s food. The recent introduction of a pizza oven and the service of alcohol is testament to Samudra’s evolving approach to healthy living (and has seen an increase in male customers as a result). It’s not a dogmatic philosophy which underpins this place, but a recognition that health is about balance, learning and pleasure.
The cafe is open seven days a week, and while dinner service is confined to a ‘soup kitchen’ night each Wednesday, there are plans to extend this service in summer. A range of raw, paleo, vegan and vegetarian dishes are available. Cooking classes are offered once in the winter and monthly in the summer.
Yoga is the foundation of the business. Guided classes are offered alongside advanced self-practice, which inspires awe among novice onlookers – seeing how dedication to practice results in impressive flexibility and core strength.
Superfood elixirs and a range of health products are available to take away.
As yoga can uncover a body’s injuries and weaknesses, the onsite wellness centre aims to heal the body through a range of alternative therapies including massage, kinesiology and acupuncture.
Superfood elixirs and a range of health products are available to take away. The popularity of the food products is growing and they can now be found in retail outlets across Perth and interstate. Retreats occur throughout the year and are seasonally focused, offering participants a concentrated environment in which to move and feed their bodies for wellness.
The aim of Samudra is for participants to leave feeling pampered, aware of their bodies, nourished through food, cognisant of stresses and relaxed. In a region that has a lot to offer in terms of health, food and nature, Samurda is well worth a visit – for a meal, a day or a retreat.
