Get your romance on in Mornington Peninsula with a beach house stay and fine dining meal at Terminus
This weekend, Mr. G. and I headed down to Mornington Peninsula for a restaurant review of the critically acclaimed fine dining restaurant Terminus at Flinders Hotel. We had a special, tailor-made meal cooked for us by multi-award-winning chef Pierre Khodja. Since the review was scheduled for Valentine’s Day, I thought we might as well stay down in Mornington Peninsula for the weekend and rent a beach house – when in Rome!
So we booked two nights at Miller’s Rest, a gorgeous beach house in Blairgowrie. It’s located just minutes from the beach and numerous nature trails, and only a short drive from Peninsula Hot Springs and many of the area’s wineries.
The food at Terminus was phenomenal. We were served an artfully presented take on a salad niçoise, incorporating hunks of super-silky, medium-rare salmon, long slithers of anchovy, little fingers of green beans, tomato segments, potato cubes and a halved, soft-boiled egg. Alongside that, we had grilled squid, which had an assortment of finely chopped seasonal herbs and veg tumbled across it. For main, Pierre served us lamb cooked three ways, drizzled in a flavour-packed cinnamon and chermoula reduction. Dessert was a light-as-air soufflé served alongside custard and ice cream sprinkled with lavender confetti.
And after our review of Terminus, we headed back to the beach house to enjoy the rest of our weekend away. Miller’s Rest is a four-bedroom property with a large deck and garden compete with an all-important barbecue. We enjoyed fantastic local wine out on the deck while watching the sunset, trips to the beach, and barbecued for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Talk about a wonderful, impromptu way to spend the Valentine’s Day weekend!
