Get the VIP treatment at Bangkok’s 5-star urban playground
If you’ve ever stayed at a W before, you’ll know that it isn’t an ordinary hotel – by any means. In fact, it’s quote extraordinary. A stay at a W is different to regular hotels in so many ways.
The décor is super slick, the rooftop pool is open 24 hours a day, there’s music playing almost everywhere you go, and the airport pick-up limo is pimped out with massage seats! And that’s just a few of the amazing W perks.
We stayed in a Spectacular Room, which is a spacious, modern and funky room complete with a rain shower and giant freestanding bathtub. If you want to go all out (and have the budget for it!), there’s always the xtreme Wow Suite, which comes complete with a four-person rain shower, full bar, projector screen, four-person steam room and jacuzzi tub – it’s the ultimate party suite.
And the in-hotel food offerings are just as cool. Don’t expect to see any sad cafes with three-day-old croissants and processed juices here. Come evening, the lobby bar transforms from a check-in spot to a busy, chic bar. Decent dining options are aplenty, too.
We dined at The Courtyard, the W Bangkok’s newest culinary offering.
The Courtyard Restaurant
Wander out of the hotel and you’ll see a colonial building to your left (pictured above), The House on Sathorn. This 126-year-old colonial mansion has been refurbed to now house to a collection of the W’s newest trendy (and popular!) venues. There’s The Bar, The Dining Room, and The Courtyard, which is where we dined.
Set in the mansion’s leafy courtyard, as the name suggests, this open-air restaurant is hidden away from the busy streets of Bangkok. It provides respite from the honks. shouts, and other stresses of city life, while still allowing diners to enjoy a meal outdoors.
The menu has a variety of Western and Asian foods – all made with premium ingredients. If you’re feeling fancy there are dishes like caviar and aged wagyu. Of if you want to keep it simple you can share a few nibbles from the small plates section. The black cod is brilliantly silky, the tuna tartare is fresh and light, and the steak is tender and juicy.
The atmosphere, setting, decor, service, cocktails, wine and food at The Courtyard all get top marks from us.
We had an early flight to catch so didn’t have apres-dinner cocktails at The Bar (pictured top), but if you’re not jetting off in the wee hours, that’s definitely the place to head after.
The Summary: As usual, the W pulls out all the stops and nails the wow factor
