Makeup and high heels will be replaced with mud and runners this November as Melbourne plays host to the first Mudderella athletic event to hit our shores.
Originating in the United States in 2013, this world-class obstacle course is run for women by women to take them out of the gym and get them down and dirty in the mud.
Held at the beautiful St Anne’s Winery, the run will see participants covering eight to 10 kilometres of muddy terrain and smashing 12 to 15 obstacles along the way that will test strength, balance and agility. Swinging on tyres, jumping on trampolines, climbing cargo nets and sliding into a deep pool of water are just some of the things you can expect on the day, so if you’re not covered in mud at the end, you’re not doing it right.
A wonderful attribute about this event is the run is not timed and it is not a competition but an opportunity for women to challenge themselves. Everyone is encouraged to do the best they can through personal goals, team work and motivation.
The full-day event not only involves the obstacle course but also focuses on empowering women and celebrating their strength in all areas. The day starts off by helping the ladies to look the part before their run, followed by a stretch and strengthening session to prepare for the event. After the run, the participants can clean off with a warm shower and enjoy food and entertainment to celebrate the day and relax in to the evening.
They haven’t left the men out either as husbands, boyfriends, dads and brothers are encouraged to come along as support or join their loved ones on the day as well as other family and friends.
Aside from having a great time and lots of laughs, your participation will also be supporting the event’s partner White Ribbon – Australia’s male-led campaign to end domestic violence against women.
So ladies, get your girlfriends together to support a great cause and challenge yourself. Your body will thank you for it and the laughs along the way will be well worth the pain. You’re guaranteed to have a muddy good time.
