When was the last time you reached into your mailbox and pulled out something that wasn’t another dreaded bill or a glossy flyer from the local pizza shop? A year ago? Longer?
The Makers Mailer is a subscription service that is bringing joy back to letterboxes around Australia, and urging time-poor people to treat themselves with creative gifts.
For $30 a month (plus delivery) subscribers excitedly wait for the arrival of the postie to deliver lovely brown parcels of mystery. What’s inside the beautifully hand-wrapped bundles? The surprise is part of the fun, each month the crafts are hand-selected by the team and can range from quirky homewares and accessories to stationary.
This month subscribers received a collection of contemporary designs from Sprout and Sparrow, a sister duo from Melbourne. The package included their signature designs of bold and colourful quirk: a cute cactus print, birthday card and a variety of gift tags.
The point of difference from the The Makers Mailers is that all of the gifts are lovingly made by independent Australian artists and designers. As well as providing a monthly pick-me-up for busy people, this service is acting as a connector to unique creative folk and their work. Subscribers can choose to sign-up for 1 – 12 months.
Creator Fi Foott says that The Makers Mailer provides a significant income for artists and gives them an opportunity to be recognised. “I love connecting with each and every maker on behalf of our subscribers,” says Fi, “It’s so satisfying to support such creative industries, and to help busy women also make that connection when their letterbox reveals our latest creative discovery.”
If you’re looking for a gift that keeps on giving each month, or looking to support independent artists, The Makers Mailer may just be the surprise you need.
