The ultimate romantic weekend away in the Hunter Valley
Welcome to Château Élan, a sanctuary of delights for those wanting a romantic weekend away. Having recently won the title of Best Luxury Accommodation in NSW for the second year in a row, one couldn’t help but wonder what all the fuss is about.
Château Élan is the resort of choice for many celebrities frequenting the Hunter Valley.
Just two hours from Sydney, this retreat offers a variety of experiences that couples can do together or solo (because, as we all know, non-stop one-on-one couple time can get a little overwhelming).
Each spa suite inside the peaceful main building is inspired by a particular city (think Amsterdam, New York and others of the same calibre), featuring relevant artwork and books. Truly noteworthy aspects are the environmentally friendly amenities by Aussie label Appelles, as well as top-of-the-line massage beds. With this kind of experience, it’s easy to see why Château Élan is the resort of choice for many celebrities frequenting the Hunter Valley.
Now on to the activities. This may come as a shock, but the Hunter Valley isn’t just ‘wine country’, as it’s popularly known – it’s also adventure alley. You and your partner may fancy a flight in a hot-air balloon or helicopter, taking in the most spectacular views of the Pokolbin, Rothbury and Lovedale regions. But if air travel isn’t your cup of tea, you could always hop on board a horse-drawn carriage to explore the region’s vineyards.
For the gents, there’s radio talent Richard Mercer’s on-site Golf Academy. OK, he may not be the well-known Love God Richard Mercer, but this guy is funny, once had his own radio show, and knows his way around the 18-hole golf course designed by none other than Greg Norman.
And for the ladies (and men, if they’re lucky enough to be invited), a pamper at Château Élan’s day spa is a must-do. There are 17 treatment rooms in total where massages, body wraps, scrubs, facials, pedicures and manicures are all on offer. The décor is well thought out and very inviting – chic yet warm, with mandatory dimmed lighting. Once you’ve changed into your oil-scented robe and slippers, you’ll be taken to the Hydrolounge, an indoor/outdoor space with a spa, sauna (aka Detox Box), hot tubs and hydrowood lounges. It’s recommended you spend at least 60 minutes prior to your treatment here (no complaints there!).
Next door, French-inspired Café Elan is a wonderful area to continue the relaxation – and the perfect place to pick up afternoon tea and treats before heading to dinner at one of the hatted restaurants nearby.
