Balance your yin and yang with some five-star pampering

The Langham is synonymous with luxury. So expect the very best. And after being greeted by suited-up doormen and ascending the hotel’s elegant grand marble staircase, you do start to expect just that – and you won’t be disappointed.

Chuan Spa Melbourne is known as one of the most innovative and luxurious day spas in the city. Treatments here are all about balancing the five elements: metal, wood, fire, earth and water. Traditional Chinese medicine and the principles of yin and yang are central to the whole experience.

The spa facilities are exceptional – from the zero-edge Jacuzzi with sweeping views of Melbourne’s city skyline to the “colour therapy snail shower”, which incorporates 12 jets of water, steam and a rain shower. There’s also a 15-metre saltwater lap pool and dry sauna for you to enjoy. At least 30 minutes are recommended just to explore these facilities alone.

After you don a super-soft robe and take a seat on a comfy recliner to enjoy some soothing tea, you fill out your consultation form, guaranteeing a treatment tailored to your personal needs.

You’re then whisked away to your private treatment room to begin.

Opt for the harmony massage if you’re after a peaceful, relaxing experience – it combines flowing relaxation movements with therapeutic acupressure techniques. Among others, there are a selection of balancing, hot stone, deep tissue and remedial massages to choose from. You select your massage oil in a blind smell test before lying back on a plush massage bed and relaxing to the sound of trickling waterfalls.

For those who want to really treat themselves, there are the Chuan signature escapes. A treatment called “body elements” is one, and it’s a totally indulgent, 90-minute treatment that includes a full-body massage and facial tailored to your individual needs. You can choose from a selection of add-ons as well, including a hair mask, scalp treatment, scalp massage, herbal salt scrub and much more.

The whole ethos behind Chuan Spa is to leave you feeling balanced. And as you slip out of The Langham’s grand double doors back onto Southbank’s iconic riverside promenade, you can’t help but feel you’re glowing.
