A hidden gem for the cinephiles out there

Ambience is everything – and Chauvel Cinemas certainly doesn’t lack that old-world charm that is often missing in new theatres across the country. Located in historic Paddington Town Hall, the cinema has been operating since 1977 and feels like an old Parisian town theatre. Red carpet floors (the old, fully sprung floor still hidden underneath), velvety seats, paint slowly but visibly flaking off the ceiling – there is no better place to watch cult films and all-time movie gems.

But don’t be mistaken, Chauvel Cinemas does not only screen oldies – it’s host to a fabulous mix of recent releases, new art house movies and various film festivals.

Head to Paddington, grab a drink from the bar and enjoy the band that periodically prior to the movies, before heading in for the main event.

Chauvel Cinemas shows a selection of both current and classic movies. A standard ticket is $18.50 for an adult, with discounted ticket prices on Mondays.
